Small Moments, Great Books
Picture
Young writers often think that stories need
to be about big adventures or fantastic lives.
But wonderful books come from small moments, too.
In this presentation, we'll take a peek at
books, like PICK A PUMPKIN, that tell simple stories,
then use our five senses to write about
a favorite celebration that all children share --
their birthday!.
.
Best for grades K-2.
Maximum 60 students.
45-60 minutes, including Q&A
Dress Like Your Job!

With the book DRESS LIKE A GIRL
as the starting point, students will challenge
their thinking about which professions
are accessible to them.
Can a girl be a firefighter? You bet!
Can a boy be a nurse? Yes, he can!
We also take a look at
some historically odd outfits,
as well as examining how clothing "fits" the job.

Best for grades K-2.
Maximum 60 students.
45-60 minutes, including Q&A

Power Up Your Poetry!
Picture

Poetry is my superpower!
I've written poetry for magazines and anthologies,
and all of my picture books are in verse.
In this presentation, as students explore a diverse
collection of poems. I help them discover tools
that can "superpower" their poetry.
Tuck in poetic devices! Slip into fun forms!
Whisk in whimsy!

Best for grades 3-6.
Maximum 60 students.

45-60 minutes, including Q&A.

The Rollercoaster Ride
Picture

Writing is anything BUT an even road!
Using two books that took very different paths,

students and I will compare and contrast
how these stories came to life.
We will discuss the five Rs of an author's life -
reading, (w)riting, revision, rejection, and rising up again.

Adaptable to all ages.
Maximum 60 students.
45-60 minutes, including Q&A.
